Copy apps, contacts, SMS, mp3 etc fr iPhone 5 iOS 6 to iPhone 5S iOS 7

My kid currently has an iPhone 5 (16MB) running iOS 6
& she just got a new iPhone 5S 32MB

Will need to copy over to the 5S
a) about 200 games/apps to the new phone
b) all the existing contacts, reminders etc
c) all existing SMS and Whatsapp messages
d) preferred Wifi settings/services that the
phone will auto-connect when within range
e) any other items? Pls advise

The 5S comes with iOS 7.05: we can keep this
or upgrade it to 7.1

I followed the instructions in the above link
using iTunes on my Win 7 laptop to
backup the 5 & then restore to 5S

Does the above steps backs up only the
apps & data but skip iOS backup?

After clicking on "Backup" option, a message asking if
I want to backup "Mirotic apps" appears & I answered
OK & got the attached screen.
Is this correct option to select?

Is Mirotic the name of my kid's iPhone 5?
Sort of hostname of a computer?

Just after the restore, got a few messages saying there's about
20 odd apps that require this computer to be authorized.

Those payable apps were purchased using my wife's Apple Id
previously, so authorized my laptop using my wife's Apple Id,
right?  So that I could reinstall back those apps from Appstore?

After restoring, the Contacts & SMS messages are ported over.

However, all the various apps (free & payable ones) from the old
iPhone 5 were not seen in the new iPhone 5S.  Whatsapp messages
also not  there.  How should I proceed to get them into the 5S?

How can I check/view what's been backed up to my laptop's
iTunes?  (apps, data, SMS/whatsapps messages, photos,
mp3 songs etc)

when I reconnect this iPhone 5S back to my laptop's USB port,
it prompts whether to update to iOS 7.1 & when I answered
"Update", it starts backing up the phone but doesn't appear
to update it to 7.1

You will have to log in with your Wife's Apple ID to install the apps that were purchased though her account.

What about those free apps?  Do I need to reinstall them
one by one?  There are about 200 of them
Sikhumbuzo NtsadaSenior IT TechnicianCommented:
I have Automatic Download ON on my devices, found under Settings, iTunes & App Store, what I install on one device installs on the other as well.

I am not sure if it will work from a new device, it's worth trying it, else restore if from iTunes if it shows.

Can give me a step by step instruction on how to " restore if from iTunes if it shows".
Attach a screen shot showing the option in iTunes if possible

I meant once you log in to the iPhone, with the account that was used to install the apps, you can attempt a restore from iTunes if there was a backup done and the apps were transferred to the library.

Bear with me as I'm not an Apple product user who is trying to
help my kid:

>if there was a backup done and the apps were transferred to the library
How do we check that the apps were transferred/backup to the library?
I guess by 'library', you mean the library in iTunes on my laptop.
Step by step (click by click) instructions are appreciated

Hi Sunhux,

Please take the iPhone 5 and connect it on a computer with iTunes, Authorize it using your Wife's Apple ID, this is because the apps in question were installed using her ID.

Do a full backup of the iPhone 5 on the computer, you will be ask to transfer purchased apps.

There is a link showing you how to if not prompted.

You will then transfer the purchased apps to iTunes there by creating a backup on the computer.

Log in on the iPhone 5s with your Wife's Apple again and Authorize it in iTunes, then perform a restore.

Once done you can log back in with the kid's Apple ID.

Can you attached a screen shot indicating where this link is?

Clicking on the word transfer on my last post will open the link, else use the one below.

Thanks, have transferred the purchases over to my laptop &
authorized my laptop.

A colleague helped me with taking backup on this latest
iTunes which will select to backup the Apps: now all the
Apps & all Contacts backed up & restored successfully
to the new iPhone 5S.

a) mp3 songs, photos & videos in the old iPhone was not restored over to
    the new iPhone 5S
b) the latest Whatsapps & SMS messages not copied over

How can I get these copied over?  Can I just use my Win 7's
Windows Explorer to copy over the photos/videos?  I can
see them in my Win 7's explorer

As for the mp3, Whatsapps & SMS messages, can't see them
in Explorer

Well you can copy the rest of the media out and put it back in iTunes folder to re-sync it.
