Solved: Unable to access AD domain following power outage

Hi,

Need to fix the DNS issue first.

1. Check and confirm that all services are running that are set to automatic startup.
2. check the NS and A records for all DCs.
3. run DCDIAG /Test:dns and share the result.

hi,

Great no error/issue in your domain controller..

if you have the issue with PC to joining the domain then on effected PC, do following.

1. run NSLOOKUP DCNAME and see if it is able to resole it.
2. check for firewall.
3. make sure that DNS client & workstation service and all other services that are set to automatic startup is running.

If you run %logonserver% from run windows on domain joined client machine, does it resolves to NetBIOS name of local authenticating DC or you get error here ?

Does nslookup resolving properly on client computers ?
Is windows firewall is enabled on client computers ?

In default domain controller policy ensure that everyone and authenticated users are listed under "access this computer from network" user rights

On affected computer please open Advanced Tcp/IP settings and check DNS Tab.
In DNS tab, check below settings.
ensure that "Append Primary and connection specific dns suffixes" radio button is selected
Ensure that "Append parent suffixes of primary dns suffix" checkbox is selected
Ensure that "register this connection addresses in Dns" checkbox is selected
If there is any deviation in the above settings, its probably you will face name resolution issues

As per previous posting, NSlookup companyads on the affected PC (and PCs that are connected to domain) give same failure message.

DNS Setting sas per Mahesh's suggestion.

Its as thought the DNS records for 'companyads' are missing. Hence the text:
"The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.COMPANYADS" when trying to join the PC to the domain.
