How do I limit the amount of text that shows in the body of an announcement,

That is what the title is for... put text in the title and the user can click the text to see the body of the announcement. I assume you are displaying the announcements via a list view webpart?

I was advised by a Human Factors Expert to display the body and the title together without having to do the extra click, but have come to realize that they didn't understand the format.
