I'm trying to add a journalling rule and I get this error message

error
The JournalEmailAddress can only be a mail user, a mail contact or an external address.

I didn't have a dedicated user for this, so I added another license and user.

I still get the same error.

No I don't want to use an external email address :-).....

You cannot use internal to the organization address, must be external.

It says explicitly that it can be a mailbox user in the error message, and the instructions says that if u have a hybrid solution u cant have online as journalling for onsite mailboxes and vice versa.

Which implies that u can have online for online mailboxes and onsite for onsite.

MailUser is different than mailbox:

Mail user
A mail-enabled Active Directory user that represents a user outside the Exchange organization. Each mail user has an external email address. All messages sent to the mail user are routed to this external email address.

A mail user is similar to a mail contact, except that a mail user has Active Directory logon credentials and can access resources.

There are also tons of threads on the community forums detailing this, check there if you dont believe me :)

Whatever very good arguments someone thought of when designing this, they need a pragmatic realitycheck...

Thx for playing Vasil.

Another way to do that is: You create journal to send journal to your gmail email. And then, you forward all email from your gmail to your internal exchange email :)
