I have never been able to find a way to make a DTL work with Backup Exec without connecting it to the backup server. &nbsp;There may be a way, but i've tried also without success. &nbsp;If I were you I'd send a message to HP Tech Support. &nbsp;But I'm not optimistic.<br />

I have Backup Exec 2012 doing full backups onto an HP StoreEasy NAS (Win2012 Storage Server). I want to add one more stage and make a duplicate backup from the NAS onto an HP StoreEver DTL. I connected the Tape Drive to the NAS (via SAS) so that data goes from the NAS directly to the Tape without having to go through the Backup Exec server. So far so good. Alas... I cannot figure out how to make Backup Exec &quot;see&quot; the Tape Drive. Does the DTL have to be connected directly to the Backup Exec server? Isn't there a way to detect it via an agent on the Storage Server? Thanks.

Backup Exec and HP StoreEver Tape Library

The term "Backup" means the methods and processes involved to copy computer data (system data as well as application data) to media other than the ones where the data originally live (disk, tape, optical, cloud). "Restore" in turn means the methods and processes involved in data recovery, i. e., bringing back copied computer data to their original location. Backup/Restore primarily serves as a means of protection against data loss, be it due to disaster, corruption or sabotage.
