Exchange OAB Not Automatically Download..

Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010 clients.

I can manually download each address book from the server by going into send/receive groups - download address book - selecting each one.

However why is it not automatically downloading?

By default exchange generates OAB once a day @ 4:00 am. so if you check the next day your cached mode clients should be fine. or the only option is to do manually on the client go to Outlook -> Tools -> Send/Receive -> Download Address Book manually.

Have u waited for 1 day and still your OAB is not updated ?
Is this happening for all the users ? from when it get started this type of behaviour

Just try to restart the File Distribution Service on CAS Server.

Also You can try this as well.

1. Open the Exchange Management Console.
2. Go to Organization Configuration, and then click Mailbox.
3. Right click the appropriate database and go to Properties
4. Click on the Client Settings tab, do you have an OAB set?
5. If no click Browse and select the correct OAB and Ok and Ok

yes all users.

Thanks, all looks fine.  I did have to change the local server path for the OAB to the SSL cert which fixed the errors downloading the OAB.  

Tried the reg fix too, no joy.

Just try to restart the File Distribution Service on CAS Server. - will this affect users?

No it will not, already your OAB is not working and its used for that only.

Before that you can also try below command and check if it works.

Update-FileDistributionService -Identity Server1 -Type "OAB"

You can also check if your CAS server has OABVirtualDirectory
[PS] D:\>get-OabVirtualDirectory -Server XYZ

If it doesn't, then your have to create the new one:

[PS] D:\>new-OabVirtualDirectory -Server XYZ (check relevant commands from net).

ran second one - internal and external are showing our SSL path not local server (which we had to change in order to get the OAB downloading manually)
restarted service again

logged onto a new machine and it downloaded one of the address books, but not the other 10.

note: in cached mode..

Just try to disable cached mode of one of the machine and check if all works well and then again enable cached mode and restart the Outlook.

Also check any error in the event viewer on CAS server, please post here.

to add to above in more detail:

creating a new outlook profile on the machine creates under c:\users\user\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook\

roamcache folder
user@domain.com ost
mapisvc
outlook.sharing.xml.obi

no offlineaddressbooks folder.

manually downloading the address book from one of the PCs created the offlineaddressbooks folder (defaulting in cached mode).  The c10 or so address lists then show in outlook when clicking download address book.  However the default add book is not the GAL but another one which we don't want to be the default.  Its only downloaded a single folder within the offlineaddressbooks folder on the client. If i take the machine offline i cant see any of the 10 lists.

Testing on another new machine it appeared to downlaod the address book automatically (the same folder name as the PC above) and taking the machine out of cached mode, clicking download address book, seem to be working in the same way as the above PC.  
I cant take the non cached machine offline from exchange to be able to see if i can use the OAB..

clients are outlook 2010 sp3

Do you find event log error on the CAS server related to OAB ?

Also to add: the 2nd PC un-cached when clicking new message shows the GAL within the OAB.  The cached PC shows the incorrect address list.

Hi,

One thing you can do once again, if its causing to all the users.

Restart Microsoft Exchange File Distribution service on CAS Servers and then run below command.

Update-FileDistributionService - Identify <insert your CAS server hostname>.

Then close your outlook and restart again and check if its updated or not ? pls let us know.

To add a bit more info:

We also have configured:
2x Standalone exchange servers.
2x offline address books, one on each server.  One thing i have noticed is that clients on the 2nd server are pulling down address lists from the other server.

OAB configs (Server1):
include default GAL - ticked
include the following address lists - all ALs added
distribution - enable web-based distribution - both server1 and 2 are added (OAB default web site)

OAB configs (server2):
include default GAL - ticked
distribution - enable web-based distribution - both server1 and 2 are added (OAB default web site)

Why you have ticked "Include the Following Address List" remove this tick.

And after applying this setting it will take 24 hours so you can wait tilk then.

Yes wht you have provided is also helpful at some instant.

please paste event error log from CAS server, also while doing manual GAL download you may recieve error, please paste that as well.

only regarding the address lists i have created within the OAB:

OABGen could not generate full details for some entries in the offline address list for address list '\All External Contacts'.  To see which entries are affected, set event logging for the offline address list generator to at least medium.

still not 100% sure if resolved really.
by changing the local cert/server path to the 3rd party cert/path it seems better, no errors, but users still reporting incorrect address list showing in outlook when clicking new email.
i think its an outlook/exchange issue here.
