border not showing after complete slide

Ive been working on a simple slidedown issue where if I have a div inside a div and use slideDown then the border only shows during the animation:-

For example:-
http://jsfiddle.net/5vjsA/

I know the issue is with the following line:-
#testContainer * { float: left; }

However I more problems with removing this line as then the height of the div doesnt update with ajax requests later.

Anyone hae any ideas how I can keep the float:left, but keep the border?

Thanks in advance

Hi

check this:
http://jsfiddle.net/5vjsA/1/

This is because of you are adding div inside div.

Unfortantly the way I need it to work is to automatically resize to the correct size, as the DIVs are created dynamically by ajax requests. When I put another div into the parent it draws borders on both divs.

So for example:-

Sorry, I didnt explain myself properly :-(

Maybe it is me, but I am confused as to what you want to end up with.   Can you update your  fiddle as a static html without the jquery and show us what you want to end up with.
