Getting html code from Firefox instance?

I have a Visual Basic project where I need to get the html code from a running instance of Firefox. I know how this can be done using Internet Explorer (using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer). I know how to spawn a new Firefox instance using the Selenium toolkit (OpenQA.Selenium.Firefox.FirefoxDriver). However Selenium apparently cannot connect to an already running instance of Firefox. This project will not allow an in-app browser control - it has to interface and monitor external Firefox instances.

Is there a way for Visual Basic to interface with a Firefox browser instance to get it's html code?
