Failover Implementation with SMTP Server

Any one has suggestions for fail over management of SMTP servers.

We already have primary, secondary and tertiary servers.

Thanks

Please clarify your question.  Are you talking about incoming or outgoing?

What is your current implementation, one primary server where all the data is while the other two accept and queue up the emails until the primary recovers?
or do you have a common storage to which all of them can write and you are looking for a site based failover?

we have just one SMTP that fails from time to time.  The primary/seconday/tertiary were just suggestions.  But we are looking for a short term solution to the SMTP server failing from time to time.

What resources do you have?
One redudant setup deals with a common storage using NFS storage. with SMTP based had units.  What os/mail server software are you comfortable with?
Note the Common storage will be the single point of failure unless you get one that has ..
or you can setup two replicating using rsync or depending ......

What resources are available to you in terms of systems, storage, funding?

i.e. Netapp, EMC, Dell , Hitachi, IBM, HP have NAS, SAN
openfiler, FreeNas, and other can be setup on your older workstation, depending on the amount of data and how long you are looking to hold it.
Adding backups is a requirement since nothing lasts for ever and might break when you least expect it.
