SBS 2008 Backup

I need to find an external hard drive that will backup my SBS 2008 server.  I know there is a list of hard drives recommended to backup SBS but it is outdated and a lot of the hard drives are no longer sold by the makers.  I also understand on this list there are certain hard drives that have been tested for both backup and recovery.  I would like recommendations on more recent external hard drives that have been tested successfully for backup and restore.  At least 1.5 TB hard drives should be sufficient.

We use External USB drives at many clients on SBS2003, SBS2008 and Server 2008 R2.

We found that most servers that are five years old have the old bios that is not capable on Server 2003/2008 of accessing anything larger than a 2TB drive.  I've seem many techs think they could out smart the bios and put a 3TB or 4Tb USB drive on an older server. 99% of the time that does not work.

I've have not had good luck with WD MyBooks. For some reason they die quickly. I don't think they are durable enough for server backups.

We have had great luck with the Verbatim and Seagate EXT USB 3.0 2tb drives. We also use the Startech PEXUSB3S2 R  USB 3.0 adaptor for quick transfer times.

Hope this helps!

We've been using WD My Books as well, but like you said they don't last.

Do you know what Verbatim or Seagate model you have been using?
