Hi,

I've installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 using the Windows Internal Database. I'm a bit confused about the maximum size of the database. On several websites I read that the max size for an SQL express database is 4GB.

Is this the same as the Windows Internal Database? Or can it grow bigger?

Nope Windows internal database is different than SQL express edition. In windows internal database the maximum database permitted in 4 GB. Whereas in SQL express its 10 GB. Better to install SQL express edition than internal one as its free too.

In future if you need more than 10 GB then buy the license for enterprise or standard SQL editions.

I found out that SharePoint Foundation 2010 uses SQL Express 2008 R2, which gives a 10GB database size.
