Do I need AD installed to test Windows Authentication in net web app?

I just want to test that Windows authentication works, app works fine in Basic Authentication but not in Windows authentication.

Would be grateful for any help

Thanks

No, you do not need to have AD installed but the machine you trying to authenticate needs to be part of that domain.

Also what version of IIS are you using, if using IIS7 please take a look at this article:

http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.webserver/security/authentication/windowsauthentication

Note:
Steps would be mostly similar for IIS version 7 and above.
