Short answer: look for longer style names.

When you add a rule and some other rule is longer and it contains your rule name, that rule will be applied.

Another short answer: when hiding elements, go for IDs. They are always more specific than classes.

Because you have this and it overrides your style, being a more specific rule:
.primary-navigation .nav-menu {
            border-bottom: 0;
            display: block;
      }

http://css-tricks.com/specifics-on-css-specificity/

This rule has a specificity of 20, while your rule had a specificity of 10.

The rule I used has a specificity of 100.
