Visio 2010 won't let me edit entity shapes that I drag into the main screen.  When I press a key, I get this popup message:

shape protection, container, and/or layer properties prevent complete execution of this command.

What edits are you trying to do? When selecting sheets from a template which incorporates special features (such as maintaining relational integrity for example) it is common for certain actions to be blocked.

You can sometimes adjust this by right clicking the shape and displaying the 'shape sheet' and modifying items under 'protection' but without knowing how the shape is configured you will be risking breaking some element of the template you didn't intend to.

I am simply trying to enlarge the entity shape by selecting it and pulling on the toggle bars but it won't let me.  I also cannot enter text.  I googled the problem too...I set protection off for all items. Now I am able to enter text but the toggle bars still will not drag.

the fixed size is probably set by the template, have you unprotected the sheet as well as the object itself?

or tried saving the shape locally and opening it in a blank drawing
