unable to make clone of a vm

Dear
        when i try to clone one VM, i get the error as below: this operation is not supported with virtual disks in independent mode or raw disk
       how can i fix it?

you can try removing the disk with RDM from the VM and then clone the VM, and then reattach the RDM disk to the VM.

You cannot clone the VM with the RDM attached since it directly points to the LUN which can't directly be cloned.

when I say remove, I just meant Detach the RDM disk and attach it to the VM once it is ready, here is the guide on attaching it to the VM.

understand, can i shutdown this VM and uncheck the independent disk mode, then power on this VM and then do the Clone?
i think this will shorten the down time, any advice?
