Hello there,

I have a web domain which is registered in Germany and I have a VPS server in another country. On my server I have setup my web application with Apache Tomcat. My application users access the website by typing the domain of the site. Now my question is does this effect the performance of the application if my domain and server are in different country. will my application work faster if my domain and server are in the country where 95% of my users will be working with the application. removing the internet speed factor from the user side. i will appreciate your help if somebody helps me to understand this.

cheers

Location of the domain name doesn't matter because DNS is shared with all the DNS machines and it is cached when it is fetched from the authoritative servers.  But it is better to have the web server closer to the users because there will be fewer 'hops' (intermediate servers) which mean less delay.  You can go to http://www.uptrends.com/aspx/free-html-site-page-load-check-tool.aspx and by choosing different locations, you can see that the load time varies with the distance from the web server.
