Exchange 2013 hybrid setup for one user

We've got a user who works very early in the A.M. and it's not entirely uncommon for him to experience issues with VPN and Outlook.  This makes supporting this user a challenge, and I was wondering about getting him (and only him) to a cloud based Exchange setup (we currently have Exchange 2013 on premises set up for all users).  Is this sort of limited hybrid setup possible, practical, and reliable?

You could go partial hybrid. And just get a single license on Office 365 and then do DirSync. You wouldn't have Single Sign On (synchronized passwords). But, ADFS would likely be overkill for one user.
