Project test.mpp cannot be opened

I have a user that gets this error when opening a file sent in email to him from another user who can open this. the error is this:
The file "test.MPP cannot be opened
Check the file name and path are correct
Check the file format is recognized by project
Project files saved in a version earlier then Project 98 cannot be opened.
If the file is from an earlier vers. click save as MPX format then open MPX in current version of project formatting will be lost.

I have cleane his temp files and repaired project in the control panel and still not working. I uninstalled project and re-installed it and still no go? Any ideas? This is windows 7 and project 2010.

Hi,

any idea which version of Project had been used to save the file initially? I understand you try to open with Project 2010 and get the error Messages above, right?

I thought it was also project 2010. I will check to make sure and yes, the above message is the correct error.

There seems to be no response on this. I have found a workaround by saving it to another file then working it there.
