Internet explorer 8 tabbed browsing homepage GPO

We have a GPO set to configure our corporate intranet as the defautlt homepage tab in IE. This has been in place and has been working without issue. Today I had a user say that they add additional tabs as IE homepages but each time after a logout/reboot they are removed.

Now I know this is due to the group policy setting our intranet as the home page but is there any setting or work around that will allow user set tabs to remain as well as enforcing our homepage policy?

Thanks

Remove the Internet Explorer GPO Settings for setting the home page, then create a Group Policy Preference Registry Key
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"Start Page"="http://intraweb page here"

By doing this the first page will always remain as the intraweb page and users can create alternative home pages/tabs and they will stick.

This is the way I've done it in our organisation, if you explicitly set the Internet Home Page via Group Policy Settings this will always clear any additional tabs and home page settings.
