Hello,
Recently I had decided to switch our center to VoIP Gateways instead of the traditional hosted soft phones we had been using in most but not all of our centers. We had previously used AudioCodes MP-124 Gateways so decided to stick with what we thought we knew and purchase just those. I ended up, after days of searching, purchasing a few AudioCodes from a dealer, MP-124C\FXS\AC\H.323 to be exact.

I have since been trying to configure them to accommodate our LAN since receiving them but have been unsuccessful in resetting the boxes. I tried all the ways I had found of logging into them including using a FXS phone port, HTTP, Telnet and trying to use a straight through DB9 or serial connection. I unsuccessfully tried to search for answers but have come up short. The manual claims a hard reset defaults the IP of the device to 10.1.10.10 . I can get some information using hyperterminal but this just seems to monitor unlike the MP-124D's we have purchased that allow you to configure with a serial cable.

My question is just that. Does anyone have any information on these regarding connections? I am only answering my own questions with assumptions. I am assuming these are older version MP-124's that do not allow you to use CLI with a serial connection to change the IP? Is this off base?

Any information on these would help tremendously.

Thank you for the response. I cannot follow the link however as I am getting a server application error. Could you resend the link? I have done some research on AudioCodes website so I am hopeful that your response will shed some light.

Thank you again.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

I was able to open the document and although I am appreciative, I was unable to reset the Gateways prior to the factory default settings. Thus, I am unable to use a crossover cable or straight through on a hub or switch. I am more curious why I could not use a serial DB9 to configure the Gateway MP-124C but my thought is that a certain model is where AudioCodes made the jump to include CLI. I just need a confirmation so I know what to purchase so I can use hyper-terminal in the future.

Sorry, I use there gear on multiple project but but have never the problems you are discovering -  An the one issue with them is that a service contract is required to get access to anyone.

Maybe, another expert will have a suggestion or the dealer who sold you the gear.

No worries. I appreciate pointing me in a direction! I am honestly baffled my self and feel like we should be able to reset them or access them using the CLI. Both or which we cannot.

Andrew,

Was working on a serial IO issue recently and thought I was using a Null Modem but because of the USB to Serial to Serial interface the two cables combined actually resulted in a straight through not a null modem an of course the serial port appeared dead until I tried a straight through an all of a sudden I had a connection.

So be sure you are DTE on one side and DCE on the other --  The manual indicates that the connection is DB-9 straight through..

   http://www.888voip.com/products/downloads/audiocodes/MP-1xx-SIP-Users-Manual-ver-5-0.pdf  (Page 30 ) Section 3.2.4.1 and (Page 262) Section 10.2

Very valid point! I had used a USB to DB-9 to start. After I had no success I had purchased a Male to Female DB-9 from Startech in hopes this was the case but found it was not. I think the issue was product and model age. I think I had gotten use to a certain model and at some point AudioCodes must have made the switch to a CLI interface rather than using it just to monitor. This is the only assumption I can come up with. I believe some AudioCode Gateways as in this model do not have the CLI feature. Why the box would not reset to default IP's is a different issue on itself but I don't think these models allow CLI configuration.

You can try the repair center, but without a support contract I am not sure you will get anywhere..

Exactly that. I was unable to get anywhere without having a contract. I was told I would receive a call back as to what a phone contract includes but was never reached back to.

At this point, I am left assuming. Going to only purchase MP124's I am familiar with from here on.

Still left assuming without an answer but some interesting information was presented. Information that we had already researched but information that may have helped given the situation at hand be a bit different.
