Hi.
Have a File server (win 2008 R2) that had some folders missing (don't know if they were deleted)
Went into the parent folder and previous Versions and saw that there were 2 Versions of the folder for 20-30 days back.
Startet restoring (aprox 20 GB) from 2 days back, and half way it failed saying that location no longer exists.
canceled the job and was going to try again.
Now It says, "no previos Versions available"
Looked under the drives Properties -Shadow copy and its sat to use shadow copy.
Says Next schedule is tomorrow at 07.00. but Used Space is now 0 KB......

Help! Will try to restart server tonight.
Our other backup has also failed With a VSS related error..

I hate to be the provider of bad news, but it sounds like you had either VSS corruption or not enough space to take snapshots ... Especially because you also mention problems with backup and VSS ...

There's no magical way to get (VSS) snapshots back, if they are gone, they are gone ...

Check the state of VSS with vssadmin through command line ...

# vssadmin list shadows
# vssadmin list providers
# vssadmin list writers

Are just a few examples, they will not bring back the VSS snapshots but it migh provide more insight.

Most likely related to the VSS issues you are seeing.  first thing suspect is lack of disk space available.
How much do you have?
What do you see in event viewer regarding VSS errors.
Try running the VSS fix on this page:

Hi.
Disk in question have 164 GB of 649 GB free disk Place.
Found this in Eventviewer:
"The shadow copies of volume E: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time.  Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied."

This really fu**ed me up..
Just deleted the copies during restore..

So this basically means that the VSS doesn't get enough time to complete the shadow copies ... Is there a lot of load on that volume? maybe consider adding spindles to the volume so it gets a better IO throughput? Or, as the event says, consider to keep them on a less IO intensive volume?
