Hi there

I have configure a Terminal server in Windows 2008R2. Everything is working fine but the only problem I have is that my users are getting kicked out some times. They have to reconnect. I have check the DNS and the RDP security layers. I also have 15 licences set to users.

Is there someting else that I have to check?

Thank you

Hello.

Do the users all lose connection to the TS a the same time? If you have a willing volunteer among them it would be useful to setup a running ping test to the TS and see if this is dropping packets or showing high latency at the times of the kickouts. E.g in Windows command prompt use 'ping servername -t'

Are they connecting to the TS over a local wired network or over the Internet?

Also when they reconnect after being kicked, is their previous session state preserved or do they have to start from scratch?

Best regards.

Thank you

They only loose connection. All the programs are still opens.

They are connecting over a VPN connection.

Not sure they are getting kicked out at the same time.

I'm not loosing ping

Do they use WIFI or wired LAN on their local machines? If they are using WIFI connections and then establishing the VPN sometimes the VPN is sensitive to a low WIFI signal. It may drop and re-connect automatically but any application sessions that relied on the VPN may drop and take longer to reconnect or not reconnect automatically at all.

If  WIFI is in use , you could  ask one of the users to test using a wired LAN connection and to turn off their WIFI card to rule out WIFI as a possible source if the problem.

Also if the VPN server has connection logs that you can check it would be good to see if there are VPN client connectivity changes seen at the same times as the TS session kickouts.

If you are also suffering the same issues and you are certian there are no network connectivity problems between you and the TS you could try running rsop.msc in your TS session to see if any other admin has configured any idle session timeout settings.

Best regards.
