Microsoft Forefront TMG2010: firewall and other related services are not started automatically after server re-boot?!

Hi there,

I’m in a panic mode right now and need some help please.

We have been using Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 (ver.7.0.9193.500) for a quite a few years. Microsoft and hardware specific (HP ProLiant DL380 G6) patches on this server were done on a regular basis.

Now, after some HP firmware upgrade and some HP software patches… TMG2010 server stop working!!! I have tried to roll some of those patches back but TMG2010 is still not happy…

As you can see from the pictures provided, TMG firewall and other related services are not started automatically after server re-boot?! I’m trying to manually start them but without any luck.

I have full backup of this server but I’m hoping that this problem can be fixed easily.

Thanks in advance.

Go into services and see what the dependancy is. The list all the automatic services that have no started. Then we can jump into the event logs.

Well, when you look at the dependencies tab for TMG Firewall service how do you determine which of those dependencies and sub-dependencies have already been started and which are not?!

When I’m trying to manually start TMG Firewall service and its fail to start…, I can see three entrees in System logs (please see logs below). It looks like that TMG Firewall and TMG Control services are depends on Microsoft Firewall Packet Engine Driver service. But I don’t see this “Packet Engine Driver service” anywhere in the list of the running or not running services?!
