Hi, on a win8 pc outlook express folders keep disappearing when opening outlook from a power down. only inbox, drafs, deleted and sent show - none of the custom-created subfolders. they would show when outlook is closed and restarted. i just disabled some unnecessary add-ins with exception for mcafee. we are not using an exchange server for email. a pst file repair was done and this recurrs. ideas are wlcome. thnx,

FYI outlook express is not supported on Windows 8.  Are you referring to Outlook 2013 or the Metro mail client on the start screen.

Sounds like the .pst file is corrupted.. run scanpst from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15 folder on the .pst file

When you shutdown something is holding the file open (anti-virus?) and when the power is removed the file is getting corrupted. your only choice is to remove the outlook.pst from what is scanned or otherwise ensure that the file is closed before a shutdown/reboot
