IE11 Compatibility Issue

I have a legacy website which works only in IE9 and below and for IE 10 the compatibility mode worked fine.

Now in IE11 to get to the compatibility mode I tried F12-> Emulation and in the "Document mode" option and chose the option 8 but the website totally collapses.

But the website works perfectly on IE-8 but when the same site in IE-11 and the Document mode is 8 why does the website collapse.

Or is there any other way to set compatibility mode.

I even tried placing the meta tag in head section for the jsp pages but still did not work.
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8"/>

Did you ever just use the Compatibility View ?  (add website, close browser, so NOT F12! The compatibility view that was there since IE7)

@Kimputer : For IE10 we used the IT10 Compatability mode in Quirks mode.

And for the the older browsers we used the default option i.e.  In an IE8 broWser we used IE8 as Browser mode and Document Mode : Quirks.

Now can I use say Browser Mode : 8 and Document Mode: Quirks in IE 11.
There is a very recent update for IE11 which may solve your problem.  It is called Enterprise Mode.
Enterprise Mode, a compatibility mode that runs on Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1 Update and Windows 7 devices, lets websites render using a modified browser configuration that’s designed to emulate Internet Explorer 8, avoiding the common compatibility problems associated with web apps written and tested on older versions of Internet Explorer.

This site offers a .reg file to turn on Enterprise Mode.

I have not used this.

@jcimarron : Thanks a lot for the reply.

Around 60% of the website is working now but the remaining part seems broken.

Are there any settings available to get the emulation of IE8 in Quirks mode in IE11 along with Enterprise Mode.

@jcimarron: Thanks for the reply.

What exactly is and how will it aid in this case, when I went into the link I saw links for virtual machines.

Can you please elaborate reagarding the same.
If you click the orange Compatibility Report box you will get help in scanning your website for coding errors for later versions of IE.
