Citrix Xenapp license acquistion error from server: All licenses are currently in use.

I have just started using thin clients with a brand new Xenapp 6.0 Citrix environment. it's been running well until i started trying to login with some new accounts. With the new accounts only (old accounts are working fine) i am getting this error:

"Citrix Xenapp license acquistion error from server: All licenses are currently in use."

My assumption is that this a TS CAL issue since i check Citrix and all licenses are available for use. I currently only have 5 concurrent licenses and 5 TS CALS. I'm trying to figure out if i can tell what TS CALS are checked out so i can revoke any unneeded checked out licenses. I am in the process of getting more licenses for each, but would like to be able to get these new users up in the meantime. Since i am new to citrix I would appreciate step by step directions if possible.

1 server environment; Windows server standard 2008 R2

Thank you so much.

TS CALS work not concurrent.
Check the MS-licensing server. tell us if you use user or device licenses from MS.
if you user device calls look how many are taken.
You have to wait some time (i think 90 days) to reuse used licenses.

i am per user on my TS CALS. where can i look to see which users are taking these up?
ok i was able to run a report on my TS CAL user usage and somehow my "Installed CALS" column is "5" (this is correct) and my "CALS in use" are "0". i'm not sure how this is possible since i was under the impression that the CALS are not concurrent and checked out for a period of time. I am still getting the original error on certain accounts only. some accounts work just fine. has anyone else seen this issue?
MS don't count the user-cals currently.
If your Terminalservers are configured with user-licensing also, you should not have any ms-rds-related licensing problems.
so i think you have a citrix license error.
take a look to your used citrix licenses. How many are used?
try to use the most current citrix-license-server.

i'm starting to think that too. these licenses were purchased prior to my arrival, do you think that these are user/device type licenses like microsoft? I was under the impression these were concurrent licenses, but i'm starting to think that they are not based on this from my license administration console:

Product      SA Date      In Use (Available)            Expiration      License Type

Citrix Provisioning Server for Desktops|Concurrent
      2014.1224      0 (10)            PERMANENT      Retail

Citrix Provisioning Services|Concurrent
      2014.1224      0 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail

Citrix Start-up License|Server
      2038.0101      1 (4000)            PERMANENT      System      Hosts

Citrix StorageLink Enterprise|Concurrent

Citrix XenApp Enterprise|Concurrent
      2014.1224      0 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail

Citrix XenDesktop Enterprise|Concurrent (Legacy)
      2014.1224      0 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail

Citrix XenDesktop Enterprise|User/Device
      2014.1224      5 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail      Hosts
Yes.
this line say you use XenDesktop Licensing Model ; you own 5 Licenses named (counted) user/device ; and you use 5 licenses.
Citrix XenDesktop Enterprise|User/Device
      2014.1224      5 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail      Hosts

Citrix has CCU Concurrent use licenses or Counted user/device licenses.

You have currently no free licenses and have to wait 90 days after last usage until unused licenses becomes free.
How exactly does that work? When someone logs in does it take note of the device or the user or both?

Thank you for the help on this as i am a one man IT dept so help is few and far between.

Thank you so much for your help. i'm pretty certain that this is my issue (wrong type of licensing). i'm going to keep the question open until after i speak with my vendor to be sure, but will award points afterwards.

Thanks again...i appreciate it.
not so fast ... there are another option.
Don't know why, but there are 5 concurrent licenses at your license pool also...
Citrix XenApp Enterprise|Concurrent
       2014.1224      0 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail
Citrix XenDesktop Enterprise|Concurrent (Legacy)
       2014.1224      0 (5)            PERMANENT      Retail

try to switch you server to concurrent  licensing. Should solve your problem.

OK, so i opened up the Xenapp Server role manager and the model that is currently selected is "XenDesktop user/device" which says that it is recommended based on teh licenses found on the citrix license server. the two other options are "Xenapp" and "Xendesktop concurrent system". It seems to me that concurrent licensing would be the best option (contrary to what it tells me), but would I choose "Xenapp" or "Xendesktop concurrent system"?  If i change the model does my already allocated licenses go back into the pool for the concurrent licensing?
your used "named licenses" keeps blocked.
but you can use the (seeming additional) other licenses now.
The XenApp licenses are for compatibility reasons only.  (With XenDesktop licenses you are allowed to use XenApp as feature ...current versions from XenApp use xendesktop licensing therefore ... but if you wish to use old XenApp versions that don't know anything from xendesktop-licensing ... they use the old XenApp licenses)

i don't know why you have 5 CCU and 5 named Xendesktop licenses at your pool.

i would select XenDesktop CCU licensing.
went ahead and purchased concurrent licenses. thanks for the help 'dkotte'
