asked on

connecting to another PC drive on the dsl network

on laptop A
the user name is
Jim Martini (no password for the user)
and
computer name is
tablet

the C drive is mapped for sharing as "\\Tablet\c"

on laptop B,
i typed \\Tablet\c

(both are win7 pro machines)

it asks for credentials

i type
tablet\[Jim Marini] with blank password
or
tablet\"Jim Marini" with blank password

how can i make this work.

when i do a
"ping tablet" it connects fine.

i tried by ip (instead of computer name) and it also fails.

ASKER

the win7 machine does not have a password to the user name
well you need to have a password on the windows 7 machine, otherwise it will not work. Like I said you cant use a blank password when share devices over a network. You also need to make sure both devices are on the same workgroup.

on the "tablet" machine,

i have these settings for the drive:

*"Everyone" have FULL Control
Turn on Network Discovery
*Turn on File and Printer Sharing
*Turn on Sharing so anyone with network access can RW files.
*Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56- bit encryption (just try to accomodate and be safe on all front for this connection to work)
*Turn off password protected sharing

do these sound right?

which format is right for the user id:

tablet\[Jim Marini]
 tablet\"Jim Marini"
or something else
(because of the space is the complication)?
