Clean up computer with some bugs

I have a lap top that has some minor viruses on it. It was bought during Spring of last year, so it's only one year old. We used it to try to download live sporting event and I believe that is where the problem started.

As a novice user, what type of things can I do to delete the junk viruses on it?

I am going am un-intalling the programs that have no Publisher name attached to them. Anything else I can do to help it out? Would it be hard to get it to start over from the way it was when we bought it... just wipe everything off?

IMO, as every new IT person finds out after countless jobs cleaning someone's mess, you need to run Malwarebytes (Free) and also install some AV (Microsoft Security Essentials is fine.) After that, I suggest installing a browser add-ons such as AdBlock so you can filter out some of the crap. If you can purchase Malwarebytes Pro, it has real-time monitoring (great.)

Here is an easy to use cleaner to remove "potentially unwanted programs" (PUPs) and tool-bars which not only detract from good PC performance but can cause much annoyance.
