How to set HP LJ 4700 to greyscale as default
Hi,
I've been requested to set a HP Colour Laserjet 4700dn to print grayscale by default.
Looking ath the Printers properties on the Print server (win2008 64bit srv) there is no option to set the default to greyscale.
However on individual PCs there is an option to set to "print in Greyscale".
How can I set this as default for multiple users without visiting each user?
Thanks

Hi giveandtake638,
Thanks for the message. Yes I know this is possible, but I'm talking about setting a default for all users on a network. Thanks

I see, you will need to do this through GPO.
The link below might help.

You can give the answer here a read http://serverfault.com/questions/143512/changing-shared-printer-settings-to-default-to-greyscale
The downside to this solution is each user will have to select color if they need to print a color copy.

I am aware that apparently there's a B&W driver for the HP4700, so perhaps I could set up two "printers", one using the colour driver and the other the B&W driver.
However, my question was aimed at seeing whether it was possible to do it with the current driver, with the Printer on the Print Server.
It would be great to do it though a GPO but looking through the article I can't see any mention of setting the on how to do this.

Have you tried HP Printer Administrator Resource Kit (PARK)?
With this you can control color. Scroll down read supported tools.

UPDATE: I downloaded the HP universal driver for PCL6 and this does have the print in Greyscale option.

A good tool that could be useful to stop colour printing - however it doesnt give the flexibility to allow colour printing when needed.
Select the HP Color LaserJet 4700 , and then click Properties or Preferences
Print in grayscale or change the color options can be used by using settings found on the Color tab in the printer driver.
