Hi
I purchased a player widget online which advertised mobile compatibility. This was the basis of my purchase that the player would work in full on an ios or android device. The main reason was to auto play music on a website as soon as a visitor visits the site.
When testing the players "autoplay" feature it would work on a desktop but did not autoplay when viewing the website on an android /ios based browser. When contacting the developer he states
The autoplay feature is disabled on IOS by Apple. It’s not something special with our player, it’s an Apple restriction. We wrote on our product page:
Notes for IOS (restrictions imposed by Apple):
1. The autoplay will not work because IOS disables autoplay feature and it can’t be controlled from JS
2. Volume controllers will not work on IOS. You’ll have to adjust the volume with physical buttons of the mobile device.
Is the above statement true for both apple and android? Is autoplay on a website for mobile devices impossible to acheive?
Honest feedback please
Ash
