Websphere Application Server for V7R1

We are currently running V6R1 on our server. We have 5733W60 Installed (WebSphere Application Server for OS/400 V6). Do I need to get a different licensed program for V7R1? We are upgrading this weekend and I wanted to know what I needed to do with this licensed program.

We are running both *BASE and Option 1

5733W60    *BASE   WebSphere Application Server for OS/400 V6
5733W60    1       WebSphere Application Server V6 Express

Thanks

Websphere is licensed on terms of Passport Advantage, so if you have valid subscription you should be fine (this is my personal opinion, not an IBM POV nor any kind of official statement)

for precise licensing clarification please contact your Account Advocate in IBM
5733W60 is WAS 6, which is pretty old.

All of this is covered in the 7.1 Memo To Users.  Reading the MTU is step #1 in planning an OS upgrade.

According to the IBM i V7R1 Memo to Users, WAS 6.1 is the minimum supported version.  You are also looking at retirement of the Classic JVM, and an Java version upgrade, too.

7.1 Memo to Users

http://www-912.ibm.com/systems/electronic/support/s_dir/sline003.nsf/PSP%20Number%20View/SF98036

Section 5.18 covers WAS  of particular interest to you:

"The minimum required level of WebSphere Application Server V6.1 on i 7.1 is 6.1.0.29."

and

"If you are currently using Application Server V6.0 and upgrading to i
7.1, you need to migrate to the WebSphere Application Server V6.1.0.29
or V7.0.0.7 products. Because migration does not require Application
Server V6.0 to be operational, migration can occur before or after
upgrading to i 7.1."

Note that WAS 6.1 went out of support in Sept 2013, so you'll probably want to migrate to WAS 7.

If you have an IBM Business Partner assisting with the upgrade, they should have worked through all of this with you, including licensing costs, etc.

Not good to be discovering this days before an upgrade.

When my company assists customers with upgrades like this, we cover these requirements well in advance of the upgrade.

Hopefully this isn't a production system.

Can you tell me how I can see exactly what version of Websphere Application Server I am running?

Thanks
5733-W60 is V6.

To see the minor release info run the versioninfo script in the bin directory of your WAS installation.  Here's a V6.1 example:

QSH
cd /QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/AppServer/V61/Express/bin
./versionInfo
One last question:  Do you know where I can download the 5733W80 Licensed Program? I attempted to copy it from a server that we have it running on, but it says:

SAVLICPGM LICPGM(5733W80) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(HFDOBJSAV)

Licensed program command is not supported for product 5733W80 release
  V8R0M0 option *BASE load 5050.

Licensed program 5733W80 option *BASE not processed.

Exit program processing failed.

Product 5733W80 option *BASE release V8R0M0 not processed.

Objects for product 5733W80 option *BASE release *ONLY not saved.

Thanks
