Word crashed when saving documents (Word 2013 saving Word 97-2003 document)
Word crashed when trying to save Word 97-2003 Documents. Logged onto the PC and created test documents which I could edit and save without incident. Opened Event Viewer and located the application crash:

Open Word to an new empty document.
Make sure the Insert tab of the ribbon is selected.
In the Text group, click the down-arrow to the right of the Object tool.
Choose the Text from File option. Word displays the Insert File dialog box. (This looks almost exactly like a standard Open dialog box.)
Open the Word 97-2003 document
Save it under a slightly different name to the original in Word 97-2003 format - saved!-)
Compare the two versions to find what formatting is lost (font substitution has been done, you may not spot this).
If text lost, the original was somehow previously corrupted. Sometimes it's the information from the default printer on the pc that the document was created or last edited on, that's stored before the last paragraph marker in the file. That's what this method is a work around for.

ASKER
Office is currently up to date.
I'm afraid that we will be unable to use Libre Office in this situation.

And SStory is correct, Openoffice / Libreoffice is way better at recovering corrupt word documents.
