Windows Server Backup (2008 R2) not working with external 4 TB Western Digital Drive
My Verbatim usb 2.0 500 GB drive was almost running out of space for Windows Server Backup.
I thought I was doing a good thing by adding the following to a Dell T410 Server:
I added a 4 port USB 3.0 card.
I attached a Western Digital 4 TB MyBook usb 3.0 drive.
Using Windows Server Backup, I created a backup and ran it. It failed with the following error:
The backup operation that started at '¿2014¿-¿06¿-¿08T23:34:17. 451162400Z ' has failed with following error code '2155348010' (One of the backup files could not be created.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
What can I do to solve this problem (with the hardware that I have purchased) or what hardware can I purchase to solve the problem?
Right now, no backup is being run unless I plug the usb 2.0 Verbatim drive back into the Server.
Thanks for your help.

Windows server backup will only work with disks that use the conventional 512 byte sector size. Large disks today usually use a 4k sector size. Those won't work. Probably most new disks of and above 2TB size will also be using the 4k sector size.

The backup to my usb 2.0 1TB drive was successful.

To rindi: Since 4TB drives will not work, would usb 3.0 2TB drives work instead?
