Open a specific e-mail in Thunderbird by command-line?

Thunderbird has a -mail command-line parameter, with which a specific mail can be opened from the command line. Now with this command-line parameter, I would like to be able to open a specific mail by its unique Message-ID, no matter which folder contains it.

How can this command-line parameter be used to open a specific e-mail in Thunderbird?

I've tried it some time ago, where it did not work. Now it seems they have improved it, and now it works flawlessly. Thanks for the hint.
