Looking to for some surprisingly hard-to-find software

I'm looking for 2 utilities (if they exist) to load on my computer which is running Windows 8.1.  First, I would like an email notifier which would let me know when mail arrives in either my gmail or Hotmail accounts.  Every program I've found is either loaded with malware and blocked by my antivirus ... or requires that I also load the ASK toolbar and search engine to complete the download ... which I'm not willing to do.
The 2nd program I would like is a desktop calendar which would display the current month.
I don't mind paying for the software if I can find a legitimate vendor.  Can anyone make a recommendation.

Thanks

Dick

I normally would just hit the monitor this question button, but it seems to be missing in the new incarnation of experts-exchange website, so I am posting a comment so I will see any responses, since I would like to see the answers.

Hi,
For the mail notifier I'm not sure but I like Rainlendar for a desktop calendar.

This does nothing for my notification alert problem but doe provide the calendar I wanted.  Thank yoy
Maybe I'm missing it - but I don't see a monitor link anywhere in the desktop or mobile version.
On the desktop version there is a grey "sticky" footer with email, monitor, save and print. I could not "find" it at first...
"found" the grey sticky - hiding in plain site.  The mobile version has symbols - I assume, probably incorrectly, that the star symbol means monitor.
