asked on
voice/data vlan on 1 switchport
Hey guys,
We have an older cisco 2950 switch that we use for our pc's and servers. Now we are going to add a VOIP phone system.
So i need a POE switch, and also the pc's are going to plug into the phones (non-cisco) to go online.
I'd like to separate the phones and voice into separate vlans. What switch would work for this?

Will i be able to do this even though the phones are not Cisco phones (no cdp) ?
Well usually yes but you'd better read about the particular phones you want to use to check for compatibility.

what do you mean by compatibility. The phones will work on a POE switch.
How do i separate voice/data in sep vlans on each switchport.

Phones look like they support lldp. Why is it a pain in the neck?
because when something is not going to work as expected it may be harder to troubleshoot.
Anyway cisco 2960 supports LLDP and here is a useful link:

cobra,
should you want to buy a cheaper model, you can have a look at SG300-28PP
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/small-business-300-series-managed-switches/models-comparison.html
it will let you use non cisco phones as well and create different vlans

assuming you need 48 ports, here is a suitable model:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2960-series-switches/product_bulletin_c25-512173.html
of course you can choose 24 port model as well, should it be enough
hope this helps
