Visio org chart ceased to import

We have created an org chart by importing an excel file into visio for some time now.  Today the process would not result in an org chart being created in visio using the excel import (no error message returned; just sat idle).  Each week we start with the base excel file from the previous week.  In the excel file we overlay the data, leaving the header row untouched, and save the file with a new name.  That new file is then used in the visio import wizard to create the current week's org chart.

After today's failed, we attempted to import the prior week's excel file and the wizard successfully imported the file and created the org chart.  When we attempted to import the new file created today the wizard did nothing; did not create an org chart.  No error messages returned; just sat idle.

In the wizard we: select Name: Name and Reports to: Repots To. Displayed fields selected are Name, Title, Employment, Office. ON the screen requesting org chart shapes we select Supervisor. We select the default on the final wizard screen - I want the wizard to automatically break...  as Top Executive and check the boxes in front of Hyperlink and Synchronize.  Then click Finish.  At this time the wizard typically creates and displays our org chart.  This morning, using the attached file, nothing happened; no error messages; visio just sat idle.

Hi JW,

I looked at your data, and none of the Reports To fields is blank, so the org chart wizard might not know who is the top node. I would expect some sort of warning, but it doesn't do it for me either.

Maybe if you establish a top node by having a blank value or at least a name that doesn't exist, it will work better?

Thank you for your comment.  I compared the file we sent and are having difficulty with to the file we used the prior week when we did not experience the problem.  The contents of the Reports To field/column in both files are the same.  Therefore, that doesn't appear to be the issue.
Hi JW,

We are visiting family for almost all of July, so I won't have much time to look at this. Hopefully somebody else can jump in and take a closer look at your Excel file.
OK.  Thanks for the update.
