For my needs, what web hosting or alternative service do you recommend?

My friend and I are looking at different web hosting services and we are VERY confused. This area seems so cluttered with miss-information that we can't tell which one to go for. Some people say go for "GoDaddy" others say it is horrible. Some say go for "DreamHost" others say it is horrible.

We just need a reliable hosting service that allows us to:
1) Store/Edit and share our files so we can access/edit them anywhere.
2) Have custom emails. (e.g., John.Smith@BusinessName.com)
3) Create a website when/if we are ready.
4) Constant uptime for when/if we ever have a website.

Can someone recommend what their top choice would be for fulfilling the needs above? Pricing is important, but if it means we pay $100/month for the best service on the market has too offer, we will consider that.

Stay away from GoDaddy.
So you are just using this for file sharing? You maybe better with a file sharing service like Dropbox, Google Drive etc
And get some cheap hosting for your email (assume you have a domain name) if you don't need a website.

Hey All,

Thanks for the responses. To answer Gary's question my friend and I want to have File Sharing and custom emails as a priority. On the file sharing we also may want a feature that would allow us to run software on the service provider's machine. (e.g., My friend has a dual core laptop. He would like to run AutoCad on a faster service provider's machine so that we can both work quickly on our data from anywhere online.)

For the custom email all I need is a domain then the hosting service can help set it up correct?
Also, will there be disadvantages of having a hosting service for emails and a different hosting service for a website later on?
I never heard of a file sharing service or service provider that would let you run software on their machines.  That is a total security nightmare.  AutoCAD 360 might provide online services.  https://www.autocad360.com/
Also, will there be disadvantages of having a hosting service for emails and a different hosting service for a website later on?
You should keep them on the same host - for simplicity sake. Seperating them would cost you more money.
Good Point. Thanks so much for your help. One Last question.

If we wanted a collaborative place to store our files, would there be a disadvantage of buying a machine and using software that would allow us to remotely access the machine whenever we want? (Instead of using something like Drop box, Google Sites, Google Drive etc.,)
