Cannot connect to ESXi server on port 443

Hello,
I have built up a test environment using an ESXi 5.5 server. I am trying to backup the host with Veeam but receiving an error when trying to make a connection to the host.

Failed to login to IP by SOAP. Port 443, user root, proxy srv port 0
The underlying connection was closed. An unexpected error occurred on a send
Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream.

This server is not part of my existing Vcenter environment. Anything in that environment seems to connect with Veeam with no issues.  I am able to ping this server by name, IP address and able to hit the web console from the Veeam server. I am not sure what the problem is here. It seems it could be SSL related,  but I don't see any settings for that when logging in directly to the host.  Firewall is wide open and this is all internal communications. Nothing coming from the outside.

Any ideas?

Sorry, I made a mistake in my original post.  I am UNABLE to get to the web console of my new ESXi server from my veeam server. Not sure why as I can do that with all my other ESXi hosts on the same network.

I think that could be the issue but not sure where I should be looking to correct.

Thanks,
What is the Veeam version you are using?

Can you please check the below article (though it is bit old) and update if that resolves your issue?

http://www.perfectcloud.org/fix-it/veeam-troubleshooting-failed-to-login-to-vcenter-domain-local-by-soap-port-443-user-proxy-srv-port0-cannot-complete-login-due-to-an-incorrect-user-name-or-password/
What is the error you are getting when accessing the web console from Veeam server?
I get a page cannot be displayed when trying to get to the web console. All of my other ESXi hosts I have no problem getting to the web console from the Veeam server.

I think this is where the problem lies but not exactly sure what needs to be fixed. The security profile on the host in question looks to be fine.  Is there something I'm overlooking that would be stopping port 80 and 443 traffic? I don't believe it's a local network issue as communication is fine with all others on the same subnet.
I can get to the web console of this host when using my laptop, just not from the Veeam server itself.
Can you please try telnet from the Veeam server to the ESXi host  on port 80 and 443?

Can you please try accessing the web console using IP address instead of hostname?
I can telnet with no issues to the box from the veeam server on port 80 and 443.  I can also ping by name and IP to the box, so DNS does not seem to be an issue.

However, all that is not working is I am not able to get to the web console from the veeam server using IP or name in the browser.  Neither work..  very puzzling.  I am using an older version of Veeam, and this is a new version of ESXi. Could there be a compatibility issue?  I am using Veeam B&R 5.0.

My veeam server is a 2003 box.
It could be a compatibility issue!

Can you please confirm the below?

1. Do you have issue in backup of the new ESXi server or unable to access web console of Vcenter from Veeam server?
2. ESXi version which you are able to backup using Veeam.
3. ESXi version which you are unable to backup using Veeam.
1. I am unable to access the web console of the new ESXi server from the Veeam server only using a browser.  This doesn't seem Veeam related as it seems to be a communication problem with the server itself. I am not sure why.. I am able to access the web console from ANY other source except the veeam server.

2. Using veeam, I can backup ESXi 5.0 with no issues

3. I cannot back up ESXi 5.5
Ok, I think I have narrowed this down to Server 2003 issue.

All of my server 2008 and Windows 7 boxes have no issues getting to the web console but ALL of my 2003 servers cannot access the web console of the ESXi 5.5 servers.

I am not sure how to fix this.
