MS Project 2013: Outline Change would create a circular relationship error
Hi everyone,
I have a Master Project file that has all of my roadmap projects. I was looking at the details of some of the projects and I noticed that when I tried to 'indent' a task it gave me an error:
So I looked up the reason for this error and I found that I should look at both the predecessors and successors and remove any dependencies from summary tasks. I went ahead and did it and I still can't indent.
Any ideas would be helpful!
Thank you!

I have a Master Project file that has all of my roadmap projects. I was looking at the details of some of the projects and I noticed that when I tried to 'indent' a task it gave me an error:
"This outline change would create a circular relationship.
Indenting these tasks would create an illogical relationship with other tasks.
Check the task dependencies for the tasks from which you are indenting, and then try again."
So I looked up the reason for this error and I found that I should look at both the predecessors and successors and remove any dependencies from summary tasks. I went ahead and did it and I still can't indent.
Any ideas would be helpful!
Thank you!

Hi Thomas,
I went through each task and removed all successors/predecessors. It was pretty painful but it did the trick.
Thanks!

I forgot to mention. As I was removing the successors/predecessors I was also removing sets of tasks from one file to another and then saved each file. I'm still not sure how the error occurred but it seems to be fixed now.

The MPP file is confidential so I can't... but I'm checking like you suggested. I know it's difficult to find a solution when I can't post the problem file but I don't want to compromise info. I really appreciate your help. You've thought me a lot about Project.
