We want to build out our Exchange environment at another site due to a recent merger, and eventually consolidate their AD forest and Exchange into our forest/domain. &nbsp;When designing the Exchange infrastructure at the other site, we came across the issue of a TMG/Edge replacement. &nbsp;We are definitely building out Exchange 2010, not 2013, so we'd like see what options there are for replacing the Edge/TMG role for the other location. &nbsp;The Anti-spam solution we would use is Ironport, but for handling all other traffic, https, owa, ews, Activesync, etc, what is a viable replacement. &nbsp;We would have a Cisco hardware firewall, but imagine we would need some sort of TMG/Edge replacement.

The scope of discussions includes forward and reverse proxy, application and service publishing, virtual private networks (VPNs), outbound access rules, SSL certificates and network routing within either a single node or an highly-available array pairing.

Software firewalls, also known as host-based firewalls, provide a layer of software on one host that controls network traffic in and out of that single machine. Most operating systems now include firewall software, but many available software firewalls include central distribution, antivirus systems and disaster recovery.
