The Seagate HDD which holds the Virtual machine got corrupted.
Hello, I installed EXSI 5.1.0 build number 1065491 and hosted a guest OS: Windows 7. This guest OS was not booting properly for a while and we diagnosed the HDD which confirmed the HDD has some I/O errors (Hardware fault). We have installed important applications on it and we need a backup, can some one give a best solution in place. When tried downloading .vmdk and other files using "vsphere" it also displayed an error message.
Troubleshooting we tried:
--> Removing the VM from inventory and registering it back
--> Installed a new instance of VM by referring to the old vmdk; this did not help because the HDD is corrupted
--> Removed the HDD and tried to clone it using clonezilla, which also got interrupted due to H/W errors on the HDD
Please give us a suggestion so that we could safely backup the data.
