Remove media device from showing in network
We have a corporate domain, with laptops running Windows 7. REcently, a new laptop running Windows 7 64-bit was added to the network, and now under Media Devices when a user is looking at the Network, it can see the Rhapsody service as a media device.
I can't turn off network discovery since file server access is required. Media Streaming is not turned on (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options)
How do I prevent this local media device service Rhapsody, from showing on the Network?

“Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service” is not started and its set to manual. The other two media services are also not started and set to manual.
Does the Rhapsody service have an exception in the Windows firewall? Turn that off and it should stop advertising itself to the local network.

The windows firewall did not have an exception for Rhapsody. I did see several entries for Rhapsody for Inbound rules though, and made limited them only to a single computer, but others can still see and access the Rhapsody Media Device on the Network.

Rhapsody has a UPnP Server in its software. Stopping that and preventing it from auto enabling when Rhapsody is started did the trick. Thanks!
Sure. Glad to help.
Go to services, select “Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service”, right click, and click “Stop” to disable it.
Please try this and report back.
