Upgraded from php 5.2.7 to 5.3 getting errors to my website

I upgraded my php version from 5.2.7 to 5.3 and now one of my websites is screwed up. Im getting the errors below can anyone tell me how to fix this.

Wow, the use of the keyword "var" dates back to PHP4 (many, many years ago) which had a terribly bad object model.  Are you sure there isn't a more recent version of this code?  If there is an upgrade available, you probably want it.

Maybe throw in a var_dump() for $this->settings to see what's there.

Is there something I can do in the php.ini file to fix this without changeing about of stuff

Or could this be as simple as just uploading the new version of CAKE?

I ssh into my php.ini file and I can not find the time zone anywhere what can I do now.

Yes I saw that page before on date.timezone. I think Im just going to put my version of PHP back to 5.2.1 on that server because non of the above solutions are working.
Be aware that PHP 5.2 is no longer supported for anything at all, not even for security fixes.  PHP 5.5 is current.

Also, I found this line in my php.ini which prevents the warning that appeared at PHP 5.3

date.timezone="America/Chicago"

I just went with php 5.5 and I am upgrading the site also thanks for the help
