How to upgrade firmware on HP A5500 switch

Does anyone have a cheatsheet on how to upgrade the firmware on a HP A5500 switch. Please don't point me to HP website, I need something I can understand.

I know you said please don't point me to HP website, but...

The process is terribleif you have a stack.  I've done it a few times and if you do have a stack (and are familiar with the usual upgrade process) the best writeup really is here...

However, if you only have one switch try this (I referenced some commands from the above link because it's easier)...

1] Download the boot ROM and boot image you want to install to a PC/Laptop which can ping the switch using its management IP.

2] Install a TFTP server (TFTPd32 is a good one) and copy the downloaded files to the TFTP root directory.

3] Log in to the CLI (using PuTTY or another terminal emulator) on the switch and enter the boot menu, then press 6 to get to the boot room update menu.

4] Press 1 to enter the TFTP parameters.  Enter the filename of the boot ROM you downloaded, the IP address of the switch and the IP address of your PC/Laptop.  Accept the values and the switch should upgrade the boot ROM.

5] Back in the boot menu, press 0 to reboot the switch.

6] When the switch reboots, repeat step [3], but instead of pressing 6, press 1 instead to enter the application download menu.

7] Repeat step [4], but enter the filename of the boot image instead of the boot ROM file.

8] Repeat step [5] and the switch should boot with the new software.
