Windows SBS 2008 -> Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation

Hi experts!
I have found a lot articles about migration from SBS 2008 to Essentials 2012, but there is not any word about Foundation server.
I have SBS 2008 with 6 users, not using Exchange server today. Because of my hardware is running out of life I want to upgrade to new hardware with Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation. Is it even possible? Can I just promote the new server to existing domain?
I need to migrate AD, DNS, GPO, File Server.
Have you any experience with this? Do Windows Fondation have a migration mode as Essentials does?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Treat it like a migration to server standard but understand you should transfer the FSMO rules immediately.

Any reason you don't want to use essentials? Foundation is fine for your size but lacks the remote web access and wizards available with essentials. And essentials shouldn't be much more price wise and it also gives you workstation backup.

The reason is price, and the fact Im not comfortable with wizards ;-) Thank you, tomorrow I will give it a try.

The price difference for Foundation vs. Essentials is not more than a couple of hundred.

NOTE: once you begin migration and transfer the FSMO roles, SBS gives you 3 weeks to complete the migration, but the foundation server has similar rules if it's a DC (and if it's in a domain it MUST be a DC)
