In honor of the Gueen;s camping trip, would you like to post your funniest/weirdest/scariest etc camping experiences?
I have one. When the lads (let's call them Zeus and Apollo) were in Boy Scouts, I got drafted as a Scout leader. Every August, we would go to Acadia National Pahk in Bah Hahbah. One of the first years, I had the patrol's food in a cooler in my van, and it was wicked hot out. Rather than leave it in the oven-like van overnight to ferment, I thought it would be OK to leave it outside where it might be less hot. I piled several large rocks (small boulders) on top to dissuade scavengers. (I know. Rookie move. Totally)
During the night I heard what sounded like punk rock and square dancing, which could only have been a raccoon party. Not being armed, I didn't venture outside my tent.
In the morning, the large rocks (small boulders) were still in place, but the hotdogs (and only the hotdogs) we had brought for supper were gone.
And that's one of my stories.
