How can one access files inside a .vhdx from backup

using Windows Server 2012 R2 (host and several VMs) and built-in backup feature WSB:

The VMs' OS is the same as the host's.
How can one get a file inside a .vhdx, after a full backup of the host machine?

(just the file, without restoring the entire VM) The VM may not be restored to the older date, that would cause damage. But a file inside the .vhdx at that date is needed. There is a full backup of the host at that specific date. How can one get the older version of that specific file?

    Accepted Solution

Just double click the vhdx or mount it.
Its contents will be browsable in Windows Explore as a mounted drive.
