This page cant be display

I've had a problem the last 3 times I've gone to update my Windows 7 Home Premium laptop. After updating, my IE 11 no longer works. I get the page "This page can't be displayed". Clicking the "Fix connection problems" button does nothing. I can get to the Internet from other browsers, putty, WINSCP, etc., just not from I.E., so it's clearly not a bona fide connection problem. I end up restoring the system back to before the updates and IE starts working again.

Does someone know what this is and how to fix it? All I can think to do is either try installing the 53 pending updates one-by-one to find the culprit, or forget about WIN7 update from now on.

If the problem is with IE, try these
Delete your browser history
Disable add-ons in Internet Explorer
Reset Internet Explorer  (Tools|Internet Explorer|Advanced tab

If the problem is with an update
Try installing the Updates in groups of 5 or 10.  If and when you find the group that has the problem update you can then Uninstall all of the group and reinstall one by one.  With luck maybe this time the problem will not occur.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer :(

The "disable add-ons" etc. didn't help.

Is there a way to uninstall an update or a group of updates without having to restore the whole system?

It seems you have only tried some of my suggestions.  Have you tried the others?

You already accomplished this for most recent updates when you ran a System Restore.  You can also uninstall specific Updates from Control Panel|Programs and Features|"View Installed Updates" (upper left).  Wait a moment for this screen to open.

This prevents automatic update from automatically updating IE 11

This will uninstall ie 11 to a previous version
Click the Start button.
Click on Control Panel.
If you are in the Category view in Control Panel, click on Programs. * If you are in the Large icons or Small icons view skip to the next step.
Then click on Programs and Features.
Click View installed updates in the left pane.
Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
Look for Windows Internet Explorer 11.
Click on Windows Internet Explorer 11. Then go up above and then click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
Click on the Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 11, and restoring the previous version of Internet Explorer).

Well, I'd rather not do that. I develop web pages and it's probably a good idea to stay up-to-date. Also, I believe this was happening before IE11 was installed, so I'm not convinced un-installing IE11 would do it. On re-reading my initial post I see that it could imply that this was a results of installing IE11, but I don't think that's the case.

Currently, I am reluctantly pursuing jcimarron's suggestion to install in groups of 5. So far, no problem, but it will be tedious to get through all updates.

If installing updates in groups has not helped, you should now consider a Repair Install

It should not affect your installed programs or personal data, but a backup first is always a good idea.
