Log into PC from MacMini on same network

Attempts to login to WIN 7 Pro PC from MacMini (OSX Mavericks) fail when entering no password - there is no password for the PC administrator account. The dialog box 'name' displayed is not the PC user, but a *name* associated with the MacMini.

MacMini passwords associated with this *name* (i.e. Apple ID password) don't work.

I am able to log in as guest and most files I tried open OK.

Why can I not login to the PC as 'Registered User'?

You must (in addition to filling in the proper user name) also select the domain as that of the PC you are logging in to.

The PC/MAC are not on a domain, just a LAN.  Does this make a difference?
You need either a domain name or the hostname if you have the same usernames on both machines.  A shortcut to the hostname is to use .\ to precede your name.

instead of just

when you attempt to connect.

Also, you may have to set a simple password.  Modern systems have security set so that accounts with no passwords can't connect remotely by default.
